The beginning of the month of September is an uplifting and important period for students and their parents because it is at this time that the things that will make the child fall in love with and ease the learning process should be carefully selected. It is necessary to add quality and comfortable lighting to the shopping list because good education starts with good lighting!

In order to choose the right lamp for your child and to have more information about the role it plays in your child's learning and reading process, we offer an interview with Dr. Sofio Imedashvili, an ophthalmologist at the Javrishvili Clinic "Ophthalmij", who shares some important tips:

-How should the room be lit during the prayer/reading process?

-For the classroom, it is necessary to locally illuminate work surfaces and some parts of the room.

It is preferable that such local lighting is directed so that the rays are not reflected from the surface and has a neutral or warm color so that the eyes do not get tired.

-What to consider when choosing lighting?

-First of all, we should consider not relying on only one, central light source. Especially in the classroom, table lamps, lamps, or spotlights are needed, which are directed directly towards the table. This will help your child to concentrate and, at the same time, prevent eye damage.

Also, the level of lighting (wattage) is noteworthy. It is necessary to correctly determine the power of light that the child needs in the classroom because a very bright light has a bad effect on the lacrimal apparatus of the eye and in many cases causes dryness of the eye, tearing, burning, and itching sensation. Also, it is undesirable to use light with extremely low intensity, because at this time, especially when reading or studying, the eye gets strained and gets tired quickly.

-How does white and yellow light affect vision?

-Cold light is perceived as more intense and bright than warm light, that is, it has a relatively high light temperature, which sometimes strains the eyes.

Yellow lighting is the safest and most comfortable for the eyes. Unlike cold lights, it does not cause fatigue and, at the same time, is the most pleasant for the eyes when shining in the dark.

That is why it is advisable to choose warm lighting in the child's room. However, it should be taken into account that locally cold lighting is also needed to make the work room bright.

-What are the risks to a child's vision when reading intensively on an electronic device?

-The computer emits a blue light that is harmful to the eyes. Prolonged exposure to blue light can cause sleep disturbances and computer asthenopia (fatigue syndrome). The main problems of the syndrome are dry eyes and tension, headache, and neck and back tension.

These problems can be avoided by reducing the time spent in front of the computer, taking 10-minute breaks, doing light eye exercises, and using special protective glasses.

We hope that the advice of the ophthalmologist doctor was useful to you and that you will actively use it while preparing for the new academic year.
